The staff at our hotel were extremely helpful, thoughtful and kind about everything and had arranged for a tour group, Grand Vision, to pick us up to take us to La Alhambra with a guide. This was by far the best way to see La Alhambra because only 6,500 visitors per day are allowed to visit there and if going independently you have to choose a morning, an afternoon or night visiting time and then select a particular time slot to enter one of the palaces; even if you book ahead online you still have to line up early to collect the tickets, after catching a public bus or going there by taxi. Most importantly, a guide is essential to understand all about the history, the architecture, etc. N
We had a wonderful time on the tour and can understand why La Alhambra is the most visited place in Spain. The designs and patterns of the craftsmen who built the palaces there and the beauty if the gardens, plus the ingenious way they worked out how to bring water from a river is far away using gravity were just some of the aspects that made us appreciate this Moorish 'town' of the past. Having such a knowledgeable guide made the experience even so much better. We left the hotel at about 9.30 am and returned at about 2.00 pm pleasantly exhausted from such an exhilarating experience.
Greg drive us back to the boat via Motril so that we could check out the suitability of that harbour as our next stop, and thank goodness we did because they did not speak any English at Real Club Nautico so it was important to draw a diagram with the specifications of our boat to help them confirm that we could not go there. So we have decided to have a rest day tomorrow, refuel etc and then do a much longer trip on Tuesday.
