Inland to Granada

We drove to Granada, about 130 km, to the luxurious Hotel Palacios de Los Patos, in the centre of town near the Cathedral. After delicious tapas for lunch in the hotel's lovely garden area we walked to the impressive Cathedral to see that and also meandered around some of the very narrow streets of the old Moorish area, the Albaicin, which was first settled by the Moors in the 10th C. That was only the tourist area with many souvenir shops, but the hotel staff recommended a restaurant for dinner in the World Heritage area much higher up where the homes are all painted white, and only taxis are allowed to drive on the narrow pebbled roads.

Estrellas San Nicolas is an outstanding restaurant and most unusual because it has both excellent food and service plus a fabulous view. As we sat looking across at Alhambra while it was still daylight, at sunset and later, when the walks, towers and palaces were illuminated we thought how fortunate we were to be there. We also loved our taxi rides to and from the restaurant as it gave us a chance to see a lot of the special area of the Albaicin.
