Sep 17

Today just seems to have focused on eating as we started with breakfast of fresh fruit and crepes at the outdoor cafe across the road owned by a lovely couple from Paris. We later drove to Port D'Andratx for a walk around that pretty harbour with its classy shops and great range of cafes and restaurants along the waterfront. So of course we had to have a seafood lunch at one of them, which allowed John to try the fish (dorado- Iike sea bass) baked in salt, an extremely enjoyable dish. Chrissie's delicious dessert of almond cake with almond ice cream is typically Mallorcan because of the extensive almond groves on the island.

While Chris and I checked out the shops the boys found an outdoor cafe to wait in the sun and enjoy a beer or two. Chris and I eventually joined them for coffee and I had the best ever ensaimada because it was filled with pastry cream and something that tasted like caramel. Just as well that cafe is not near the boat!

As we relaxed at the cafe the fishing fleet arrived back in the port so we were able to observe the whole process of boat cleaning, hauling of nets onto the docks for mending, loading of trays of ice onto the boats ready for tomorrow's catch and unloading that day's catch into refrigerated vans. Then we discovered that some of the seafood is taken straight to a nearby fish market for immediate sale. Our dinner was planned!

We firstly savoured another serve of the Ensalata Calbrese to finish up that fabulous buffalo mozzarella and then the boys grilled the langousts (like small crayfish or a very large yabbie) we had bought at the fish market. Quite a delicacy!

We are disappointed that the weather is now being true to autumn so we are experiencing cloudy days and rainy nights, although the temperature is still in the 20s. It's just as well we are enjoying the gourmet diversions because it's not sunbaking or boating weather.
