It rained overnight and we woke to a misty and foggy morning. We had planned on lazing in the gorge for the day in the expected sunshine, so first of all Greg and I thought we should just move in to La Coruña. But that's another 7-8 hours away and the weather out of the Ria is apparently not very pleasant so we decided to look around the town and move on tomorrow. Although Cillero did not look attractive from the water we were pleasantly surprised when we went ashore. The old town was behind the facade of the plain rectangular apartment blocks and the little streets and plaza were highly decorated with banners of shields, ready for some sort of celebration. The market in the plaza was just closing but the main food market was still open and we also found a suitable place for lunch. The Spanish have their main meal at lunch time so we enjoyed our platter of barbecued tiny pork chops and veal ribs, served with a pile of chips. We returned to the boat for the 3 hour siesta time but went back to the Orange store to go through the 1.5 hour ordeal of buying the Spanish SIM cards for our iPhones and iPads. It is the same ordeal everywhere, and with only one person serving in the store it is amazing that the people in the line behind us did not kill either us or the poor girl serving us. Who said that technology makes our life easier!
Pre-dinner drinks and nibbles were on board Dream Catcher III tonight and after dinner did observe some of the town's celebration from our boat, watching the marching band and the procession of horses on the beach through our binoculars and lamenting on the uselessness of the fireworks display because it was still very light when it occurred at about 10.00 pm. We have heard that it has been 30 degrees and sunny in La Coruña today so we are keen to reach there tomorrow.
