Friday we mostly spent on the boat doing some general chores, but we did wander over the road for lunch to share a good thin crusted pizza with Spanish jamon and mozzarella and I tried to finish some writing. A simple dinner on board and watching a DVD of a P.D. James story finished off a pleasant, relaxing day.
Today we motor-sailed out of the bay and along the southern coast to an area with long sandy beaches and turquoise water (temp 28.5 C), where we have decided to anchor for the night. It's called Playa del Trench and is renowned as one of the best beaches on the island so on shore the beach looked crowded in the family area, but with less people in the topless beach area and even less in the nude beach area. It's currently 6.30 pm and Greg is about to have a swim as it's still warm and very sunny. The slight sea breeze makes it perfect out here. Inland this part of the island is low and flat, quite different from the rugged west coast. There are only pockets of areas with housing of any kind, mostly holiday villas, and two towns with harbours too shallow for a boat of our size. This area is interesting historically however, with many archaeological remains, including a prehistoric village and a Bronze age burial site. There is also a lot of agricultural activity not too far inland where there are many beautiful restored windmills. The windmills are part of what makes Mallorca so picturesque and it's wonderful to still see them being used when we drive around the island.
