Relaxing at Jumeirah Hotel, Port de Sóller, July 17-19

We decided to have a little break from the boating life for a couple of days so chose a hotel along the stunningly beautiful west coast of Mallorca, just above the town of Port de Sóller. The building is quite an accomplishment as it is perched along the cliff face for over a kilometre and is built with the local stones, fitted together without cement. This is in keeping with the stonework all over the island and blends in with the cliffs and the nearby rocky mountain range.

As we have been to this area many times by road and boat we did not need to do any sight-seeing. So we could totally relax, going no further than the infinity pool, the sunset bar and the two restaurants in the hotel. One night we ate at the tapas restaurant Es Fanals and selected gazpacho with basil sorbet, lobster salad with melon/sherry vinegar/caviar, chicken satay, lamb kebabs with aioli, grilled Sóller prawns with olive oil foam and the desert was crème brûlée (known here as crema Catalan) with orange sorbet, plus an excellent local white wine,Tinia (Sauvignon Blanc and calet grapes).

The next night we ate at their Cap Roig restaurant, where Greg's entree was prawn capaccio and I tried the 'seven ways with tomato', which presented the seven kinds of locally grown tomatoes served with shrimps, pearls and basil. We both had the special of the night as a main course - grilled local lobster served with linguine and the Tinia white wine was again very suitable to accompany the food. The local lobster is similar to Victorian lobster, but smaller and with two large pincers and no meat in the legs.

One of the best things about staying at that particular hotel is the continual opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the west coast of Mallorca. The scenery is spectacular in every direction, day and night, and one can't help but to feel rested and contented by just being there.

We have now returned to the boat, just a 35 minutes drive from the hotel, so Greg is taking an afternoon nap to capitalise on our relaxed frame of mind and I can hardly stay awake long enough to post this news. 😴😴💤
