Continuing in Mallorca, July 2015

It was also great to catch up with our friends at the market when we returned to Palma and we really do feel like this is our second home with so many familiar places and people. We love the food too - I think the fruit is better than ever, if that is possible, and of course that special Spanish Iberican jamon from the black pigs is extraordinary. We have also discovered a new large wine store where we can stock up on the best of the wines from Mallorca and a good range of single malt scotches ( no Australian whiskies, unfortunately).

Visitors from NY

Our friends from Port Washington NY, Lydia, John and their two young daughters, Zoe and Téa, arrived on June 6 and we had a very busy time trying to see some of Mallorca in the 8 days they were with us, but mostly we spent time going out on the boat and swimming or going to a beach and swimming. We did have one day that was not too hot to walk around Palma plus see a bit of the back streets by horse and cart and on another day we had the mandatory drive to Valldemossa and Soller, but we also went on to Port Soller for a swim in the bay. Every day we needed a swim!
We tried various beaches at Puerto Portals, Cala Falco and Cala Contessa (near Illettes) so we did see a little of the area surrounding Palma. One day Lydia and Zoe hired bikes for a ride around to Portixl, which they loved for the cute restored houses, the beach and the cafes.

We ate at some of our favourite restaurants - Umbo for tapas, Koa for great Spanish à la carte, La Baranda for Italian, Lucy Wang for fusion Japanese and Crepes Suzette for breakfast. The highlight of their trip was probably the night we went to see the Balearic Symphony Orchestra playing in the open central area of Belver Castel. We always appreciate what a special occasion these concerts are, to be sitting under the stars on a balmy evening, listening to beautiful classical music in this 14th C castle, one of only two completely spherical castles in Europe.

It has been a lot of fun to have a family with children on board for the first time in Mallorca and we have many great memories to share.
