August 2, 2014, Palma de Mallorca
Our Melbourne neighbours, Jan and Jim Davies came to stay with us on July 27 so we have been enjoying some of the pleasures of Mallorca with them, although it is impossible to see enough variety in a week.
A couple of days we have been out on the boat in the Bay of Palma to have lunch, anchor and have a swim and on one occasion we were even lucky enough to have a sail. The first time we anchored off the beach at Cala Major and yesterday we anchored in Cala Portals Vells, which is a very pretty and popular cove. The water temperature is perfect at about 28 C and it's easy to float around the boat as the Mediterranean is very salty. Some days it's not suitable to anchor in the Bay because of a swell coming in from southerly directions causing boats to rock around too much, but we picked days when anchoring would be enjoyable. It's always lovely and cool out on the water in comparison with the 32C land temperatures we have been having.
