Shopping at Mercado Central

Today's main activity was shopping at Mercado Central (open from 8.00 - 2.00) and excellent fresh produce market, with many more fish stalls than fruit and vegetables or meat and deli items, but it was great to be able to buy a wider range of everything than we had seen for quite some time. This included a stall to buy quail and another where we could get 'gourmet' cheeses, meaning cheeses other than local Spanish ones. Only one place sold quality jamon negro, slicing it off the bone with a fine knife, but not the Iberican style from the black pigs that are fed on acorns.  Conveniently the Carrefour supermarket is next store to the mercado. The hard part of the shopping expedition was getting it all back to the boat, but I had Greg and Bob to do the heavy carrying. There is a taxi stand next to the supermarket but we wanted to return to Panarea for lunch first.

Siesta time on the boat turned into Greg sleeping for about 5 hours because he was not well, so unfortunately we were not able to have dinner with the others who went to El Faro in San Felix (ph 956-21-10-68). As they raved about the food, wine and service we obviously missed out on a great experience.
