Arrival at Almerimar Marina was at about 7.30 pm but it we firstly had to dock at the entrance where the office is and deal with all of the paperwork before going to our berth stern to the dock. It is so stupid to have to set up lines for pulling alongside a dock and then needing to change them to be ready for stern to, but several marinas have operated that way along this coast. At least they provide someone to take the lines when we berth. This is a big marina built right on a small town, with some apartment complexes added as part of the development and it has a pleasant feel about it because it is not surrounded by hundreds of high rise apartments. The people who come here are mostly Spanish, which is a pleasant change too.
Unfortunately we had a very frustrating start to our time here. After setting up the aft lines and getting the forward anchor line on board plus setting up the passarelle, Greg dealt with the power cords to the boat and the power did not work. Every marina seems to have a different shore power socket size and Greg is forever needing to change the set up. By 10.00 pm he had tried everything to try to get the power to work but we made him give up then and have a shower. We were too tired then to prepare a meal so we went to a nearby restaurant (Nautica) for dinner. It was excellent food and service (more than one waiter!) and a very pleasant setting. Just as well, because we were eating dinner at about 11.00 pm and it was about 1.00 am when we fell into bed.
We are going to catch the bus to a nearby town to go to a real market this morning. I sure hope we get a better quality of fruit and vegetables than I have been forced to buy from supermarkets. What a tragedy that the people have lost their markets and fruit stores etc. in some of these areas already and have to buy the horrible food from supermarkets. Watch out Australia or this will happen to us too!
