Across the Bay of Biscay

2-3 hours to go. It has been a reasonable trip, especially considering how brutal the Bay of Biscay can be apparently. We have both slept well while the other was on watch, a few hours each watch. The best place for sleeping is in the main cabin, alongside the dining table, with the doona. We had fog all night that cleared mid-morning today. For a little while around midday the sun shone and we could enjoy sitting in the cockpit for a while, but now it's cloudy again. Where is sunny Spain?  We have had the headsail up for a few hours now and that is helping our boat speed, but we still have to motor all the time.

Last night and today we had a pod of porpoises around the boat and with us skimming along beside the boat. It is fabulous to watch them leap out of the water in pairs, but as soon as I grabbed the iPad to film them they stayed below the surface. Obviously camera -shy. Greg had them with him for about an hour during the night on one of his watches. He also had a big whale cross the boat at one stage - the same size as our boat! Peter and Elizabeth saw it too and said it was scary.

Gijon has two marinas so we are hopeful that at least one of them is suitable for our boat and that they have available berths for us. I have been practising my Spanish in readiness for calling the marinas as soon as we have some service to our phones.
