Stuck in port because of the weather

5.45 am alarm! Quickly dressed in warm clothes with several layers, ready to head south to Benodet. Strong winds, foggy. Peter knocked on the boat. Trip cancelled. Back to bed. Slept, read, wrote emails, more wind and some rain. What happened to our glorious weather? A day of boat chores, a long walk in the afternoon, and reworking our planning - another conference. The weather for Sunday looks perfect for the long dash (estimated 39 hours)across the Bay of Biscay so unfortunately we will skip seeing more of the French coast and head for Gijon in northern Spain.

We stocked up on necessary food just in case we leave tomorrow. The local supermarket (not the Superstore chain) has a very good butcher with a rotisserie and I love the way the French butchers cook much more than chicken this way - various cuts of pork and ham hocks in particular. The ham hocks are not fatty and are fabulous for ham sandwiches while we are travelling. We also bought a piece of rotisseried pork belly, with little potatoes that had been roasted in the rotisserie, and served with fresh peas this provided us with a delicious dinner. Dessert was apple tart from the patisserie, with ice cream. All very easy for me.

Peter and Elizabeth came to our boat for a bottle of wine after dinner so we are definitely not leaving tomorrow.
