Monday March 22: After a peaceful and very starry night, anchored in Bon Accord Harbour, Kawau Island, we woke to a beautiful sunny morning and headed back to Auckland. We had breakfast on the way, with both sails up and enjoying sailing on a reach, getting close to 10 knots for a while. As we sailed closer to Auckland we hit a 35 knot squall, so reduced sail and put up the bimini to shelter from the rain. It's such a pity to have such interesting sailing grounds with so many days of lousy weather!
Greg managed a very difficult entry into our marina pen, with wind gusts and tide carrying the boat sideways on our way in.
Paul and Teresa left for the airport late afternoon and the remaining four of us found a low key Thai restaurant (Thai Me Up, Ponsonby Rd) to have a delicious meal before retiring to bed fairly early by our normal standards.
