Autumn came to Palma on Sep 14, with the temperature dropping to the low twenties and with cloudy skies threatening rain. So it was a suitable day to explore some of the old town section of Palma. John, Chrissie and I wandered tree-lined Passeig du Born and the laneways with all kinds of shops and Greg joined us for lunch at Cappuccino near the steps to the palace and cathedral. Chrissie and I managed to continue wandering around the shops until nearly 7.00 pm without realising the time, but afternoons seem to be like that in Spain, perhaps because they have such a long siesta.
The nights are still relatively warm so we were able to eat outside at Due, one of the shoreline restaurants at Porto Portals marina complex where we really enjoy their grilled sole and great service. We all ordered and loved the sole, filleted at the table and served with perfectly cooked little boiled potatoes and pureed garlic spinach. Our dessert of panna cotta with wild berries was also excellent but John won first prize because he firstly ordered an entree of caprese ensalata (buffalo mozzarella and tomato slices) which allowed us to find out that they had magnificent creamy mozzarella. Fortunately Mossimo the waiter gave us information about where we could buy the mozzarella, so we knew what part of our next day's activities would be.
The night finished with a tremendous thunderstorm, another sign of the change of seasons.
