Aug 15 - 19

Greg and I spent a few days catching up on external boat cleaning, some editing of an article I have written while over here, reading and relaxing, plus a very enjoyable afternoon on Tuesday 18th at the excellent beach at Portals Nous. The sandy beach, with clear aqua water, is tucked in behind an island and it was such a warm day we spent most of the time in the water. There is a great bar/cafe on the water's edge at one end of the beach where we enjoyed a couple of beers mid-afternoon and it made me realise that one is never far from an alcoholic drink here. It's very common for a bar/cafe to be on a beach and you can always buy a good baguette as well as beer and most spirits or any kind of coffee.

On Wednesday Aug 19 Ginnie Schroder arrived from NY so we had dinner at home to try to allow her to have a reasonable early night. It seems impossible to do that however. By the time we have pre-dinner drinks and nibbles and the sun goes down so it is a better temperature for cooking it's already about 9.00 pm. We cooked roast veal, but our really special treat was the Egg and Bacon corn (with white and yellow kernels) that Ginnie bought from a farm stand on Long Island just before leaving NY. Corn grown in the US is magnificent - you would swear it is lashed with butter and sugar - and luckily we had two ears each. So by the time we also had dessert it wasn't an early night at all. Of course that means sleeping longer in the morning again.
